Wyclef Jean Explains Absence During Lauryn Hill & Pras’ Rock The Bells Reunion

Lauryn Hill and Pras hit the stage at the 2011 Rock the Bells festival in New York City, New York, but were one member short of a full Fugees reunion. Speaking with UsMagazine.com, Wyclef Jean explained that he was originally asked to appear during the show but a conflict kept him from participating.

“It wasn’t really a reunion,” he said. “I had a concert, but I got the offer to come. Pras was at the crib, so I said, ‘Pras, Lauryn wants me at Rock The Bells and I can’t make it.

So don’t you think you should just surprise her and pop up instead?’ So Pras shows up. And there’s two Fugees. Then they’re like, where’s the third? But that’s what happened.”
While he didn’t grace the stage with his former band members, ‘Clef didn’t entirely rule out joining forces with L Boogie and Praswell in the future.

“There’s an energy and a buzz about the Fugees that everyone likes,” he added. “I think that it would be exciting to see that happen again. I don’t know if it would be another album — but maybe a song!”

Eminem Settles With Audi Over Knock Off Commercial

Eminem has reached a settlement with Audi, in regards to a copyright infringement lawsuit over a commercial that featured music that sounded like the rapper’s hit single “Lose Yourself.” In June, Eminem’s publishing company 8 Mile Style file the lawsuit against Audi in Hamburg Regional Court in Germany.

The lawsuit claimed that the car company’s commercial for the 2012 Audi A6 Avant lifted key elements of Chrysler’s award-winning “Imported from Detroit” campaign for the new Chrysler 300. The commercial featured background music that sounded very similar to “Lose Yourself,” which topped the charts for 12 weeks in 2002.

According to the Detroit Free Press, terms of the settlement were not made available to the public, although Audi will finically support various charities around the city.

“Just like Imported From Detroit helped benefit charities like the Marshall Mathers Foundation, we as Eminem’s publisher can give back to Detroit,” said 8 mile style’s attorney Joel Martin. “We’re looking forward to working with Chrysler on several new Imported From Detroit initiatives that will benefit the city of Detroit as well as charities within the city.”

Roc-A-Fella Co-Founder Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke Busted In Massive Pot Ring

Founding Roc-A-Fella Records member Kareem “Biggs” Burke was arrested today (October 15th) with 42 other people in a ring that allegedly controlled the marijuana market in New York City. According to The New York Daily News, Burke has been a part of the ring since 1992. Federal prosecutors claim that Burke was part of a network that was headed up by Geovanny (Manny) Rodriguez Perez aka “Shorty.”

Police accused Shorty’s network of growing the pot down south, shipping it up north in tractor trailers and returning the proceeds to South Florida, according to Jim Hayes, a special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations For Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Police arrested Burke at his home in North Bergen, N.J. In addition to Burke, an advertising executive for High Times named Matthew Stang was arrested in an 18 month operation, which was dubbed “Operation Green Venom.”

Agents confiscated $1 million in drug profits and 177 pounds of marijuana from the suspects as well. “This isn’t just a group that controlled one block, one neighborhood,” Hayes said. “They dominated the wholesale marijuana market in New York for 20 years.” Kareem “Biggs” Burke and the others face 10 years to life in prison for allegedly distributing over 1,000 kilos of the drug.
